Artistic Curator Jiří Rožeň opens Opera Nova Festival in Prague

June is a busy month for renowned Czech conductor, Jiří Rožeň who opens Opera Nova Festival with the Czech premiere of Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre on 14, 16, 22 and 27 June at Prague State Opera. As artistic curator of the Festival, which is a showcase of contemporary Czech and international opera creations, Rožeň also conducts the world premiere of Kafka’s Letter To His Father by Jiří Trtík on 15 and 20 June at National Theatre (Prague).
Jiří Rožeň conducts Gothenburg Opera

On 5 May, Jiří Rožeň conducts Gothenburg Opera in a repertoire of music by Smetana, celebrating the bicentennial of the composer’s birth. Having last visited the orchestra in 2022 with performances of Smetana’s opera The Bartered Bride, Rožeň returns with a concert programme of excerpts from Smetana’s operas My Fatherland, The Two Widows, and Dalibor, as well as the symphonic poems Hakon Jarl and The Moldau.
In the coming months, highlights also include the Czech premiere of the (1996) opera Le Grand Macabre by Hungarian composer Ligeti, as part of Prague State Opera’s Opera Nova Festival, of which he is also Artistic Curator.
Jiří Rožeň and Tomáš Netopil join the celebration gala of Smetana's birth in Prague

Jiří Rožeň joins the Gala concert celebrating the 200th anniversary of Bedřich Smetana with several Czech and Slovak musicians, including HP conductor Tomáš Netopil on 2 March at The National Theatre in Prague. The concert is one of a number of events that Jiri conducts across the year, shining a light on the work of Smetana.
